The 2023 NBA draft is one of the most historic draft classes for several reasons, one of the biggest ones being all of the future rookies' different paths into the league. First, there is Victor Wembanyama, one of the most highly touted prospects since Lebron James was in High School because of his 7-foot-5 frame and shotmaking ability. Wembayama is playing right now for the Metropolitans 92 in the LNB Pro A, a professional French basketball league.
Then there is Scoot Henderson. Scoot is easily the first overall pick in a normal draft, but he’s expected to go second because of Wembanyama. Regardless, Scoot has been able to hold his own in the NBA’s G-League playing for the NBA G-League Ignite.
Then there are players like the Thompson Twins, Ausar and Amen, playing in the Overtime Elite league, and several prospects from the college ranks, like Brandon Miller from Alabama and Jarace Walker out of Houston.
The first 14 picks of the 2023 NBA Draft are going to be chaotic. It is my goal to ease any confusion about the different paths for the draftees by looking critically at each player and their league’s competition, history, and playstyle for any basketball fans that are unfamiliar with the complexities of draft night.
